On-Page SEO Basics

Basics are the things that you apply on your every website or every single page.

Check List 1 – Title Tags

<title>On-Page SEO Checklist 2018</title>

This is the title tag. This title tag text shows in your browser tab. This title tag must have your main keyword.

Check List 2 – Headings

<h1>, <h2>, <h3>…

Heading tags are also important in OnPage SEO Cheat, and Heading helps the Search Engines understand important parts of your documents. When Crawl comes on your website, then they may not crawl the entire web page. First, they look the headings and other elements and identify what this page about is.

So, you Should try to Use Heading tags in your website pages, and they must have your important Keyword. H1 and H2 tags are highly recommended.

Check List 3 – Content Elements:

Content Elements are <Strong>, <em>, <underline>, bold etc.

Again these content elements do not help the user that is on your site and read your article, but these elements also help the Search Engines to identify the important keywords in Article.

So, try to use these Content Elements in your Article at least one time.

Check List 4 – Alt Attributes:

When we insert the image on Website, then we see the Alt Attribute Input box, but most of us are ignored so much. When we leave this field empty, then Search Engine Unable to read this image about.

So, try to Add an alt tag in your Links it helps the Search Engines to Crawlers Better and better understand about the web page.

Check List 5 – Keyword Density:

What is Keyword Density? This is a very debatable topic in OnPage SEO 2018. This is also true this matters a lot in ranking. But Today the Keyword Density is the more de-ranking factor in my view.

I mean, if you over optimize your Article with keywords then your ranking might be down day by day.

There is no perfect ratio formula for keyword density because this ratio is change on Niche by Niche or Webpage by Webpage.

If you Higher a good article writer or Write an Article for your website then never over optimize keyword density.

Check List 6 – Keyword Proximity:

What kind of Proximity is Good for you website.

  • Insert Your Keyword in the First Paragraph of your content.
  • Insert Your Keyword in the Final Paragraph.
  • Insert the Keywords in Headings.

Check List 7 – URL Optimization:

This is also the very import factor for OnPage SEO 2018. Your URL must be clean and short and include your important keyword in URL.

GOOD Example: http://aamiriqbalonline.com/on-site-seo/

Bad Example: http://aamiriqbalonline.com/1/page1/article.html

Check List 8 – Meta Descriptions:

This is also the important part of OnPage SEO, and Meta Description is that two to three lines that appear in Search Engines Results.

Try to use Unique Meta Description for every web page of your website.

Check List 9 – Internal Linking:

Internal Linking is the most important topic in OnPage SEO.

Most important questions arise in mind how many time we do the internal link on one web page.

This totally depends on your site structure. But the rough idea is if your one website has 500 words article then at make least one internal link.

Check List 10 – Outbound Linking:

Outbound linking means you give the link to the other website in your content, but there is two school of thoughts on this:

  1. This Helps in Ranking.
  2. This is a Wasteful Practice

But My Opinion is, Outbound Linking is good for ranking.

Check List 11  Redirects:

It is very useful when you know how and when to use redirects. A .301 redirect is the very famous redirect that is useful when you changed URL or removed any indexed page. This is a permanent redirect that also passes some of the “Link Juice” from old inbound links to the new webpage.

Check List 12  Site Structure:

Site structure means how you setup the hierarchy of your site, from interlinking and navigation to your URL Structure. Generally, there are 3, 4 structures that I use for my sites. If you can not keep your URL Structure less than 2 levels deep, or if your internal linking is a mess then you are probably using a site structure that I would not recommend.

Silo Structure

The silo structure for sites follows a taxonomical hierarchy with strict interlinking rules. If you are Doing this on WordPress then it is the purest form that involves downloading a variety of plugins that allow you to provide dynamic links in both the widget section and the navigation section. Silo Structure is an OnPage SEO technique that is used to flow link juice around your website in order to rank webpages.

If you are running an affiliate website rather than a lead generation website, then this might be the better option for a silo structure for your website.

Traditional Silo Structure:

Traditionally in SEO, you create “silo pages” which were specifically built to funnel juice to that pages that you wanted to rank.

Maybe this way works, but if a Google Employee manually reviews your site then they easily identify Silo pages are used for SEO.

Traditional Silo Structure

My Silo Structure:

My silo structure is in a completely different way, I focus on link juice in a very targeted way to the pages that I want to rank. You can use this Structure with Static or custom Sites but it is best for WordPress and Other CMS sites. A rough Graphical image is given below for your help.

MY Silo StructureTraditional Silo Structure

Hybrid Silo Structure:

If Parent Page is linked to directly from your Homepage.

In your Widget area, you have children pages that link to supporting content, think about semantically related content here.

These relevant Children pages have a dynamic widget area also. In the widget area, they link to their sibling pages. So each page that is linked to from the widget section on the parent page. They will also contain two contextual links, One back to the parent and one to a related “authority site”.

Now back to the parent page, we have two contextual links. Use these to create a “Juice” based function to your silo. these juice pages have no widget based function in they only link back to the parent page.

The content on these pages should be more tightly themed to the content on the parent page.

Category King:

When you create your categories the king of your site structure, and you need to be strict with these URLs. Category King Structure is best to structure for WordPress sites, rather than fighting against the limitations of it. Importantly you can build Silos into this method since it is not at all strict about anything other than the categories themselves.

Rules:

  1. The first rule is that you make sure to create a page for every category on your site.
  2. Go to the setting and navigate to permalinks. make sure to make custom permalink structure.

Advanced On-Page SEO 2018

Here, we discuss all Advance On-page SEO. We already discussed above all important topics that are most important and little difficult. These topics may be not used regularly, but you need to know about because it will be useful for your concepts.

LSI: (Latent Semantic Indexing):

LSI is another form of information Retrieval that is used by the Search Engines to determine the relationships between terms and topics. That’s Why People try to include the synonyms within their content to make the best relevancy.

Tf-IDF (Term Frequency – Inverse Document Frequency)

Tf-IDF is another information Retrieval method that for how often a term is mentioned on a single page.

Additionally, this can be done across some search engine’s indexed pages on a subject. So, While Tf-IDF can look at your site with a wider perspective, it can also do this while looking at your competitors in the SERPs.

Topical Clusters also make heavy use of the Tf-IDF ranking factors to better established the authority of your site on a subject.

Link Sculpting:

Link Sculpting for OnPage is often ignored and ridiculed at as a general practice, which is a shame since the theory behind it is very sound.

If you use the Link Sculpting as a good thinking exercise, then you will see the benefits of cutting down on overall link volumes per page to ensure good link flow between pages that matter. Reducing the number of links on a page is the best way to provide better link flow.

Generally, contextual links are most valuable, and widget links are in the second number then navigation and at the footer links.

Topical Clusters:

Topical Clusters are really important for your OnPage SEO. These allow you to build groups of relevant content that all interlink to support each other.

These Clusters allow you to build groups of relevant content that all interlink to support each other, in other sense this is just groups of supporting content built around money pages. Topical Clusters are helpful for information retrieval and indexing work.

Impression Optimisation:

This is one of the best ways to find the best keywords according to your website. Go to Google Webmaster Tools and look at the impressions. There you will find the best keywords that you will miss in Ahrefs or SEMRush Tools.

Content Length:

Many time I already discuss this topic earlier. It is a Secret many case study tells us long content rank better.  It is better to write a long article as possible about the topic. If you can only write 2,000 words before losing the ability to create a quality of content dont user duplicate content before posting content use free plagiarism checker tool, then you will be better off leaving it there.

Levels:

This is also a very important topic if your site has a poor structure then look your site structure levels and improve the levels.

A crawler interprets the levels of a site in two ways:

  1. Links
  2. URLs

I give an example of one site they had multiple pages that were being linked to from the homepage (Level 0) which would make the crawler interpret this page as a Level 1 page. Their URL, the directory was two or three
subfolders deep. Creating these pages either Level 2 or 3. If your site levels are like this, then this thing more complicated for the crawler to understand what is important or what is n’t on your website.

Designing your site structure very smooth and levels are not deep more than 2, 3. If you make this type of levels, then Crawler easily understand the page about.

Formatted Content:

Formatted Content is very important as Google. Sometimes Google embeds that directly in search results.

  • Tables
  • Unordered or Ordered Lists
  • Quick Navigations

These few are most important, and it is good if you are using this in your webpages.

Embedded Media:

Embedded Media such as images, videos, audio, etc. It is a useful thing to include in an extensive article on your site. There is no hard and fast rule, but some studies show that the sites those have embedded media Rank Batter.

Schema:

I’ve never seen and have no proof that the Schema is a direct ranking factor, but it helps improve CTR in the SERPs. Which means that Schema will help you to get a higher click-through rate, and High CTR is helped in ranking.  So try to add least some basic Schema to your sites is an excellent idea.

Note: If you Adding Schema that is creating false information about your site that may be a cause of Penalties and de-ranking. So go easy with your Schema and just use it as a way of better branding your site.

What should be the Keyword density in OnPage SEO of any blog post article. Also please let me know the structure of the page, Should we make a separate page on that page I should place all my categories for Silo structure. For example, I have a site of jobs in which there are two categories govt jobs and private jobs under these there will be army jobs, navy jobs, Bank jobs etc so should I create categories of the Govt jobs and Private jobs or create a separate page for them. which practice is good for OnPage SEO and overall structure of the site which SEO is good.
